In the heart of Papatoetoe, amid the vibrant diversity of South Auckland, a new chapter in New Zealand’s Islamic history began. The Manukau Islamic Youth Centre (MIYC) was founded in 2022, not just as a building, but as a vision: a sanctuary for faith, a school for hearts and minds, and a lifeline for a growing community.
Located at 38–40 St George Street, MIYC is home to Masjid At-Tawheed, calling believers to prayer and purpose. But MIYC is more than a masjid—it’s a community anchor. It nurtures youth navigating their identities, supports reverts embracing Islam, uplifts migrants facing new beginnings, and unites families under the banner of La ilaha illallah.
Through Qur’an classes, Islamic lectures, youth retreats, counselling services, and outreach programs, MIYC is cultivating not just knowledge, but confidence, belonging, and taqwa.
In the span of 3 years, now in 2025, MIYC is more than just a building, it’s become the heart of the Muslim community in South Auckland. It’s where young people find direction, where reverts feel like they finally belong, and where families come together to strengthen their faith. It’s a place that offers real support in real-life struggles, helping people stay connected to the path of Allah in a world that’s constantly pulling them away.
